Reading for Today: Proverb Chapter 2

Gold Nugget

Verse 8: "He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His saints."

Commentary

 We should be able to sleep at night knowing that our elected officials are busy looking out for our best interest and preserving the constitution. We should be able rest at peace, confident that they are establishing provisions to preserve the american way of life. We should be... Well, regardless of the fact that I have very little confidence in our elected officials to look out for anything that's in my best interest, I still sleep like a baby. I rest with peace in my heart and mind, knowing that my God is busy establishing provisions to preserve the Christian way of life. Because He doesn't sleep, there isn't any reason for us both to stay up. I know that the Christian Constitution will never be amended, because it was flawless and timeless. It's always applicable and relevant and doesn't need to be revised. My God guards the path He established for me ("He guards the paths of justice") and He has preserved my way ("...and preserves the way of His saints."). It gives me great comfort knowing that I can't be undone while I am asleep. What He has accomplished in me, He will complete. My security lies in Him and all my hopes are secure. I have invested in the Kingdom of God  and the return is unmatched by the best opportunities known to man. You can't by stock, because it's given away freely. Yes, I will sleep secure tonight knowing that I am secured. I feel for those who don't have this security and hope to share the truth with as many as I can. Will you join the effort?

Prayer

Lord, thank you for everlasting arms of safety and security. I glorify you for you'r constant presence and protection. Amen

Reading for Today: Proverb Chapter 2

Gold Nugget

Verse3-5:  Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God. 

Commentary

Today’s “gold nugget” reminds me of the old saying “You have not, because you ask not”. I wonder how many people know that Jesus said it first in the Sermon on the Mount. The concept of asking and receiving is God’s invention. He instituted it early on and expects us to live by it. The important thing to grasp in today’s “gold nugget” would be how intently you want it. God is not a table waiter, He is a provider. He doesn’t need a tip from us to provide our every need. He gives us good gifts because of His love for us. Sometimes the gifts He wants to give us - He doesn’t because we have to want it enough. And by want, I mean intently desire. As this scripture indicates, you must want it as if you were seeking silver and hidden treasures.  Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, “Ask and you will receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it will be opened unto you”. He also said, “Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled”. He wants to give us wisdom and knowledge. If we are really seeking Him and being obedient in the knowledge He has already given us, He will give us more wisdom and knowledge. If we are faithful in what He gives us, He will give us more. (Luke 16:10) Remember what James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God who gives freely”. He wants you to have wisdom and knowledge - the question is, “Do you”?

Prayer

Lord, I do want your wisdom. I want to be willing to seek it as silver or other fine treasures. I know I need your wisdom and understanding in order to be the person you want me to be. Thank you for making your Word available to me. Amen

Verse 9-11: 9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path. 10 When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, 11 Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you,

Commentary

I've often related the proverb a day concept to taking vitamins. The first day or even week of taking some vitamins may not produce noticeable changes in your body. It's the consistant introduction of the necessary elements for an extended period of time that really starts to produce results. Often the results are not noticed even after a while because of their gradual effects. Consider this. Let's say I tired after 30 reps with a curl bar. If after 30 days of taking vitamins and eating healthier, I still tired after 30 reps, I would assume that the vitamins and healthy eating didn't work. What I didn't notice, was that my trainer had gradually added weights to my curl bar. In the end, I was performing better. I may not have noticed how much more I was lifting, but my trainer did.

The "Law of the Harvest" should be a common term and concept to every Christian. One of the first things we must learn is how to work with diligence without immediate reward. The bible is full of terms like, "In due season", "At the time of harvest", etc. It is an old testament and new testament principle. Being consistent in God's Word WILL bear fruit in your life. Purpose to work with perseverance this desire for wisdom. Make the necessary adjustments in your schedule to ensure you are getting time with the Lord in His Word. If you have to get up earlier to ensure you and Him are spending time in the scriptures, do it. Although, reading proverbs daily can be a great help to you, they cannot be the sole source of your scripture intake. Read the Gospels, then Acts and then continue through the New Testament. We must be committed to His Word to ensure good spiritual health and performance.

Prayer
Lord, remind me of the need to continue in your Word. Help me to not grow weary in well doing. I must see this race as a marathon and not a sprint. I want to finish this race strong. Help me to be willing to work during the time of labor and be thankful in the times of harvest. Amen
