A Generous Eye

Reading for Today: Proverb Chapter 22

Gold Nugget
Verse 9: “He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.”

Commentary
When we give, we give from our heart without requiring a return. It is good that God watches and blesses those who have a generous heart. You can be sure of it despite what the immediate evidence may indicate. When God rewards those who walk in obedience to His laws, often times we don’t recognize it when it comes. The reasons why we may not recognize it can vary. We may not get it when we think we should or how we think we should. The day we start expecting it is the day we challenge Him to withhold the return.

sometimes you give and give without any return, and you may even see hard times because of your generosity, but don’t lose heart. The Word says, “He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him”. Continue to have “a generous eye”. As today’s “gold nugget” says, “He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.” Trust God. If He has put you into a giving situation or opportunity, trust that He will not allow you to be destroyed. Make sure that you don’t have preconceived notions of how and when you should be compensated for your giving. Remember that your intentions count with God. If you have determined to be generous with your heart without expecting a return, you will surely receive one. Keep in mind, it may not be monetary. God knows what your real needs are and responds with the appropriate blessing.

Prayer
Lord, I know that you have plans for my life and will ensure my needs. Help me to give when I should give and trust that you are just and faithful. Amen

  1. This one is hard for some people to get. Taking "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" as seeking or wanting a blessing in return. We should always give with a cheerful heart not wanting anything in return. "Iron sharpens iron"
