Commentary
There is a term among Christians that you may or not be aware of. The term is “besetting sin”. Its definition is that of any sin that seems to (or at least attempts to) overtake you on a regular basis. It is most referenced to a scripture in Hebrews 12:1b “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, It refers to sins that so EASILY besets us. Each of us have a particular area in our life that the enemy seems to have a short track to. If we acknowledge this, there are some things that we can do to fortify those areas. If you do not agree that the enemy has the short track in some area/areas in your life, you’ll not take any means to fortify a particular area. Why would you? I know some areas that I am especially weak in. These are areas that seem to easily beset me and I have to take special measures to fortify them.

If I am to “lay aside these sins that so easily beset me”, I am going to have to do as the prudent man does in today’s “gold nugget”, A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; the simple pass on and are punished. We must understand that the bible teaches us to crucify the flesh daily. The “old man is dead” is a daily proclamation and endeavor. We assume that as long as we don’t take in anything bad to our lives, we won’t be spiritually unhealthy. You must take things spiritually healthy into your life as sure as you must nourish your body. A healthy combination of avoidance and nourishment is the key to avoiding the besetting sin and running the good race. I know the areas of weakness in my life that so easily besets me and if I am to be successful, I will go miles out of my way to avoid getting close enough to allow the enemy to reach out and snag me while I continue in prayer, study and fellowship with the saints.

Prayer
Lord, help us to be aware of the areas in our lives that the enemy is prone to attack us, and give us the wisdom and knowledge on how to fortify those areas. Amen
