Gold Nugget
Verse 7: “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from
evil.”
Commentary
As parents we are
often faced with the situation where our kids think "I got this". We can see
the path they are on and where the path will lead to, but despite our best efforts,
can’t turn our children away from their present course. There are certain scenarios where they will
learn the lesson only by trial and error, but there are some situations where
the cost is so great, we must do everything we can to turn them around. We try
with gentle hands, soft words, rough hands, tough words, anything we can
attempt to spare them from harm. We are older and wiser than they are, but they
just will not see it. We remember how we used to be and know it is too often a
part of life to learn the hard way. We know now that it is better to listen to the
elders in our lives and appreciate their words. We must know also that we are
still children and have the same struggles with walking in the steps ordered by
our Heavenly Father.
We too often think "I've we got this", and do not depart from a course on a path to destruction or folly. We need to adhere to the
words in today’s “gold nugget” that says, “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from
evil.” Even
though we are older, we still are in a Father/child relationship with God. He
is doing everything He can to turn us from bad directions. He tries with gentle hands, soft words, rough hands,
tough words, anything He can to spare us from harm. Will we listen today or
learn the hard way by trial, error and possible destruction? Listen to your Father, He knows best.
Prayer
Lord, help us to listen to that still small
voice from you that is trying to redirect us today. Help us to trust and obey
you. Amen
